THE HOLY SPIRIT

WHAT OR WHO IS THE HOLY   SPIRIT

The holy spirit is the third person of the trinity (God the father, God the son and the holy spirit).This spirit is unique and super cede every other spirit .It is this same spirit that created the universe; for the word of God says `God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in truth and in spirit’ John4:24. Again ,who or what is the holy spirit ?

Furthermore, the Father, son and the Holy Spirit are one. God created the heaven and the earth by his words.` But the world was formless and the spirit of God was hovering  over its surface’ Genesis1:2.It was this same spirit that form the son who came and gave us life(salvation) Math1:18,20.Here after, Jesus was born like every other person ,and He grew up like you and me do. But something happened after His baptism. The Bible says he was taken away by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness to be tempted by Satan shortly after His baptism because He was filled with the Holy Spirit Math3:16

NOTE: owing to the aforementioned scriptures one can rightly conclude that we will keep struggling to do things such as overcoming sin,doing the will of God, as long as we live without the holy spirit.For Christians to overcome sin  and dwell in the secret place of the Most High, it can only be done by the holy spirit.

Characteristics of the Holy Spirit

1.       The Holy Spirit is real and a person though can’t be seen but his impact is or presence in you can be felt e.g. when breeze blows it s actions are seen and felt but can’t be seen.

2.       The Holy Spirit speaks to us through our heart. The heart is his contact point, though not as many thought it to be. When He speaks it is obvious and doubtless.Acts10:19, Acts13:2.

3.       The holy spirit guides, comfort and gives peace.Acts14:26,16-17.

4.       He is our teacher. He reveals deep things of God to us.Math11:25

HOW DO I RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

The disciple could not do any things nor perform miracles until when they were baptized by the Holy spirit .Luke9:40.You can imagine peter who denied Jesus Christ 3 times.Mark15:68,69 and 71.But the same Peter  later  has the guts to stand in the mist  of  the  same people to witness y the Holy Christ.This is because he was refined by Holy spirit. Receiving the Holy Spirit entails:

1.       Salvation (receiving Jesus Christ and believing in the Holy Spirit).

2.       Thirst and hunger for the holy spirit

3.       Daily living in the words of God(be the doer of the word)

4.       Persevere(pray always)

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The holy spirit has special gifts to every believer .These gifts vary from individual to individual.However, apostle Paul advised that we should desire the higher gifts of the holy spirit such as prophecy

THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ARE

1.       Utterance of wisdom

2.       Utterance of knowledge

3.       Faith

4.       Healing

5.       Working of miracles

6.       Prophecy

7.       Ability to discern spirit

8.       Various kind of tongues

9.       Interpretation of tongues   CORTH12:8-11

There are nine spiritual gifts from the same spirit .Though; all can be given to a person CORTH13:1-4
